A Keady man has been fined £75 for failing to stop for police in what was described as a “bizarre incident”.
Damon Murphy, 31, of Crossmore Downs, pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Court heard that on March 3, 2017, police were conducting a vehicle checkpoint on the Armagh Road, Keady.
At around 1am, the defendant approached driving a black Volkswagen Golf. The vehicle was seen to slow down but did not come to a stop for police.
Defence counsel stated: “Mr Murphy made a mistake. He had been travelling from Belfast and was tired.
“He thought that police were waving him on. This really was a bizarre incident.”
Court heard that Murphy was a driver for Sainsbury’s and that his partner was pregnant.
District Judge Peter King stated: “This is inexplicable but certainly at the lower end of these types of offences.”
Murphy was ordered to pay a fine of £75, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
